This term, we continue to offer Beginner Spanish 1 and 2, and we are pleased to also offer Low Intermediate Spanish classes at the West End Community Centre in Vancouver.
Classes begin this week (January 10). Registration remains open for the first three weeks.
Students may register for one or both Low Intermediate classes. Each class has a different focus and together they provide a balanced approach to improving Spanish skills.
Spanish – Low Intermediate 1
Reading and Writing
This class is designed for students who are comfortable with the material covered in Beginner Spanish 1 and 2. The focus is on strengthening reading, writing, and structured speaking, while learning to use the past and future tenses.
Sample topics include:
- Daily routines and common expressions
- Asking for things (¿Tiene?, ¿Hay?)
- Common verbs (present and past tense)
- Directions and geography
- Numbers and ordinal numbers (first, second, third)
This class may be taken concurrently with Low Intermediate 2.
Spanish – Low Intermediate 2
Conversation
This class is ideal for students who can already communicate at a basic level in Spanish and want to build confidence in real-life conversations. The focus is on speaking, with additional practice in reading and writing.
Sample topics include:
- Talking about yourself (family, work, hobbies, and travel)
- Travel situations such as tickets and schedules
- Holidays and cultural comparisons
- Spanish in present-day Latin America and Canada
- Health topics and everyday emergencies
This class may be taken concurrently with Low Intermediate 1.
