Review: to count in Spanish it is important to memorize the numbers from zero to twenty. There is are formulas you can use to count up to 100. To review
Remember how to count after 20? you would add the 20, or 30, or 40 in front and then add the number you want after that like this: 23 would be veinte y tres, or veintitres, 35 would be treinta y cinco or treintaicinco, 44 would be cuarenta y cuatro or cuarentaicuatro….you get the idea! you’d do this all the way to 99 (noventa y nueve or noventainueve), then you’d say 100 (cien)…after 100 you want to learn how to count in 100’s….
After you’ve learned how to count up to 100, and you start to count in hundreths….there are a few things you need to know. After 100 (cien) you use add “to or tos” so you’d say for 101 – ciento, 102 – ciento dos, ciento tres……and you would continue using ciento and adding whatever number you want after. for example for 123 you would say ciento, veinte y tres. you continue to count like this all the way up to 199 or ciento noventa y nueve.
Once you reach 200 there’s another way to count, you put the number 2, or 3 in front of ciento, for example 200 would be: dos cientos, trescientos, cuatrocientos, quinientos (notice this is not cinco cientos!), seis cientos, setecientos, ochocientos, novecientos, and finally mil – notice you don’t say un mil like in English where you say one thousand, you simply say, mil.
