Por and Para in Spanish

Tired of mixing up por and para? Both mean “for,” but using them correctly is the key to speaking Spanish clearly

Think of it as an arrowUse PARA when you are going to say FOR …90% of the time (not POR)

Use Para when talking about:

1. Purpose / Goal

2. Recipient / Intended Person

3. Deadline / Future Date

4. Destination

5. Comparison or Opinion

Think of POR as a wiggly movement

  • POR is used when there’s No specific destination.

Think is POR when talking about:

1. Cause or Reason (because of)

2. Duration of Time

3. Any kind of financial interaction should use “por”….use the symbol

4. Movement Through Space

5. Means of Communication or Transportation
